WEEK 12: GENTLE

My ideal work routine? Does anyone get to be so picky as to create an ideal work routine? Maybe I should rephrase and say does anyone get so LUCKY as to create a work routine and structure this into their reality!? As a newcomer in the work force, I count myself lucky to even get to choose that I want to follow a creative passion as my career path. I’m shooting for the moon here and will be happy to land among the stars. Getting to design would be the dream and fantasizing about an ideal work routine sounds lovely as well. Here we go.

Ideal routine

I need a little kick in the butt to be out of bed and the house by 8:30. I’m not a natural morning person, but I do like to feel like an honorary participant in the morning hours with the early birds catching all their worms. This early bird considers anything before 7am to be unholy. I feel actually nauseous when I wake up before that time. My body has a physical revulsion towards those morning hours. So again, ideally 7am earliest wake up time.

I love to spend my morning actually getting to eat and enjoy a cup of coffee before heading out. I’m a firm morning routine kind of gal and if every day could start off with a warm cup of coffee I wouldn’t complain. I love to arrive early to work, if my procrastination doesn’t catch up to me that morning. Being early, getting to look at emails, and prepare for the day (in quiet) is my bread and butter! Generally, I like gentle introductions into my work day.

There are few things that strike a nerve in my inner peace like arriving into a chaotic work day. Arriving with an office already in full swing and being bombarded as soon as I walk through the door is a hard pass for me. Once I’ve had about 30 minutes to gently break into my day I’m ready for whatever the world may throw at me. I love to have tasks, order, goals and achievable deadlines in a work place. Crossings things off a list and marching towards a measurable goal is delightful and rewarding! I’ve also realized that in order to be optimally productive I need a balance of having a lunch or break. I find 4/5 hours of work is the perfect amount of time to be in office as well. I would love to work somewhere where I could come into the office for the morning and leave to finish up my day WFH or out of office somewhere. I feel like a change of scenery keeps a little pep in my step.

Finding a way to make this a reality might be a bit tricky. I do know a major life change I will need to continually strive to conquer is my procrastination. I can’t have a gentle calm start to my day if I’ve disrupted my routine by falling behind or on even barely time. Early is best when it comes to a quiet start to the work day!

These are my thoughts on an ideal work day routine.

End Scene.
